Hello! My name is Michael Nugent. I’m Chair for the first HDSA Team Hope 5k & Family Walk Reno! I am working to bring awareness to the Reno community and helping HD families. It is time we open the eyes of our community to how devastating this horrible disease is.
My brother-in-law is my HD Warrior. He has Huntington’s disease. I have personally seen the effects HD has not only the person with it but also their family and loved ones. 5 years ago, he could walk and talk. Now it is hard to make out what he says and it is almost impossible for him to walk by himself.
It is time our community learns more about this rare disease and its horrible effects. As of now, there is no cure for HD and our goal is to help find one.
You can help to move forward to a cure, and in the meantime, aid in finding treatments for our HD loved ones. Join Team Hope Reno and help improve the lives of everyone affected by HD. I look forward to meeting our Reno and surrounding areas communities at Team Hope Reno this June!

Fundraising
Team Hope Walks aim to raise as much money as possible in the local community to support the mission and services of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. There are many different fundraising strategies you may use to have a successful fundraising campaign, and HDSA suggests you use all of them! Sponsorships
We invite all local companies and small businesses to sponsor this Team Hope Walk. We depend on the generosity of sponsors, and by sponsoring a walk your company will be supporting a great cause as well as engaging in an exciting marketing opportunity within the local community. What is Huntington’s disease?
Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities usually during their prime working years and has no cure. Every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene that causes the disease. Today, there are approximately 41,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. Huntington’s disease is described as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s – simultaneously. HD is characterized by a triad of symptoms, including progressive motor dysfunction, behavioral disturbance and cognitive decline.
What is the Huntington’s Disease Society of America?
